The architectural concept can be summarised into one phrase: two naves, three transept, four courtyards. Following the differences between the standard and stadium usage characteristics, the public spaces that allow contact between the pedestrians and sports, commercial, complimentary facilities was maximised. Along the east and west elongated naves that are connected to three vertical axis, transepts that are stretched to two parallel pedestrian axis that connect the surfaces of the north, central and the pedestriansquare.
The idea is that the shaping philosophy tries to understand the local and individual essence of each project instead of treatingthe building as just a generic object from the production line. The close neighbourhood of the Maksimir park and the Maksimir stadium complex- apart from creating an enormous sinergic potential for the use of the center – it introduces into the architectural concept a requiredelement of greenery into the courtyards/squares that thanks to the symbiosis of the green surfaces and tall shrubbery that randomly paint the architectural object and enrichen the space of the user.
The dominant facade of the building is a semi-transparent shell made of perforated aluminum plates of a bronze-gold patina color and which is the only and final association of the building to sports excellence.
The play of slopes and breaks of the shell achieves a dynamic facade full of tension. The complex consists of a series of main zones. Firstly there is the zone for the sports players – soccer and atheltics, with its according halls. The ground floor is a public zone, designed as widening of the srreet and greetig square – the circulation space and various assisting content such as hospitality, business, fan shop as well as the main entrance to the stadium seating. The rest of the facilities consists of a conference hall as well as a hostel. The design also encapsulates the construction of a smaller stadium with the main soccer field and athletic track on the northern part of the complex while on the southern, three assisting soccer fields are located as well as a independent, separated recreation space forpublic use – a children’s playground and smaller fields.
